Yamaha offers a complete line of saxophones to suit every level of player from the beginning band student to the seasoned pro. Through the Yamaha ideology of 'vertical integration', the highest level Custom saxophone models are designed first, and elements of those models are carried down into the professional, intermediate, and even standard level saxophones. Through this process, Yamaha designers take great care to make sure that each saxophone model combines the ideal levels of form, function and value for the saxophonist who will be the recipient of that instrument.
Improved versions of that proven classic the Custom 875, the EX saxes are the result of decades of painstaking reserch and trials involving some of the world's greatest saxophonists. They feature a smooth response and a deep, refined sound full of rich colors. They also feature a solid feel with quick and nimble action, a wide dynamic range, stunning projection, and an authoritative tone with a beautifully defined total core. You will find that the depth and smoothness of their sound is simply incredible, and you will also find that these horns are very flexible, at home in any kind of music. The size and shape of the key buttons have been changed for a better 'feel', while the new Custom necks enhance tonal resonance and give a quicker, more comfortable response. And the saxes feature a two-point bell brace for better efficiency, so you don't have to work as hard to sound great.
The new Yamaha YAS-875EX Custom EX tenor saxophone marks a huge step forward for saxophone design. Offering players a wealth of new musical possibilities, the new Custom EX has been designed in collaboration with some of the world’s most talented saxophonists, including Nobuya Sugawa, Jean-Yves Fourmeau and Otis Murphy. Their invaluable input has meant that Yamaha have been able to create an instrument that sounds great, is comfortable to play, and that constantly evolves with the player.
During the design process, Yamaha experimented with new methods for producing the bottom bow of the instrument. The diameter of the low C and D toneholes has been reduced and Yamaha’s unique acoustic annealing process has been applied to enhance low note playability making resistance is consistent throughout the instrument’s range.
Yamaha saxophones are renowned for their fantastic intonation and the new Custom EX is no different. Yamaha have optimised the tonehole sizes and positions which has meant that the intonation on the new instrument is better than ever!
